매질(flagellation)은 예로부터 종교적인 속죄 나쁘지 않은 처벌 목적으로 시행되어 때로는 고문 나쁘지 않은 성적 쾌락을 위한 경우도 있으며 그 흔적은 아동학대의 증거가 될 수 있으며 의식적으로 동정심 유발 나쁘지 않기 때문에 책임회피를 위해 나쁘지 않은 피부에 인위적 상처를 입혀 발생하는 인공피부염으로도 관찰할 수 있다. 플라질레트 홍반은 선상의 홍반 모양을 나쁘게 만들어 다른 안은 희귀한 패턴의 발진으로 주로 항암 화학치료 후에 생기는 것으로 알려져 있다. 전형적으로 등이 나쁘고 옆구리 부분에 붉은 선상의 발진이 가려움과 동시에 생기며, 때때로 가면 가려움이나 선상 발진이 사라지고 경우에 따라서는 갈색으로 착색하기도 합니다. 진단은 주로 전형적인 패턴의 발진을 확인함으로써 가능하며, 많은 경우 발진은 저절로 소멸됩니다. 블레오 마이신으로 인한 경우가 가장 많이 보고됐으나 이 발진은 블레오 마이신 투약일부터 몇달 사이에 언제든지 시작될 수 있다. 또, 현재까지 플라질레이트 피부염은 peplomycin, docetaxel, bendamustine, doxorubicin, trastuzumab 등의 약물 투여에 의한 발생도 보고되고 있다. 류마티스 질환으로 피부근육염, 성인형 스틸병(Adult-onset Still's disease), 전신경화증, 전신홍반 루프스에서 발생할 수 있으며, 독소에 의한 경우는 익지 않았거나 또는 게으르고 익지 않은 표고버섯, 페데라스(Paederus) 및 기타 곤충에 의합니다. 소양성 피부염으로는 신경증적 찰상, 피부묘기증, 식물접촉 피부염, 식물광 피부염, 옻 피부염 등에서 관찰된다. 그 밖에도 파르보 바이러스 B하나 9감염, 과다 호 산구 증후군을 보이는 HIV환자 칙은크니아욜(Chikungunya fever), Idiopathic flagellate pigmentation등에서 보고되었다.
